“That fatherless baby deserves nothing. Give us your 12%.” My parents demanded my inheritance, unaware that the person about to take everything from them was already approaching my hospital room.

Part 1: The Hospital Ambush

The nurse had barely placed newborn Lucas against Clara Sterling’s chest when the hospital-room door opened without warning.

Her mother, Beatrice, entered first with an expensive handbag and a cold corporate expression. Clara’s father, Arthur Sterling, followed in a tailored suit, looking more like a CEO than a grandfather.

Beatrice glanced at the baby.

“We will never accept a fatherless child.”

Arthur crossed his arms. “And we will never hold him.”

Lucas was only seven hours old. His fingers curled around Clara’s hand, unaware of the rejection surrounding him.

Clara kissed his forehead.

“Then don’t.”

For months, her parents had assumed the father had abandoned her. They had never asked his name or allowed Clara to explain.

Beatrice threw a folder onto the hospital blanket, startling Lucas. Across the cover were the words:

**Irrevocable Transfer of Corporate Equity.**

Arthur placed a pen beside it.

“Sign this and give your twelve-percent stake to Ethan. After the disgrace you caused, you no longer deserve to represent this family.”

The shares, left by company founder Eleanor Sterling, allowed Clara to request audits, inspect contracts, and challenge board decisions. Her father and brother had wanted them for years.

Clara understood why they had come.

They were not there to meet Lucas. They had waited until she was exhausted and recovering from surgery, hoping to pressure her into surrendering her inheritance.

“If you refuse,” Arthur said, “you will raise that child alone. No home, no support, and no money.”

The nurse asked whether she should call security.

“Please stay,” Clara replied. “I want a witness.”

Arthur pushed the pen toward her.

“Sign.”

“No.”

Beatrice laughed.

“If this child truly has a father, where is he?”

Heavy footsteps sounded outside.

Seconds later, Julian Vance entered with the hospital’s chief surgeon and two senior attorneys. Julian was the CEO of a powerful logistics and energy group.

Arthur’s face lost all color.

Julian walked to Clara, kissed her forehead, and gently touched Lucas’s cheek.

Then he faced her parents.

“Did you just call my son fatherless?”
